A new multi hazard early warning and detection system is now active.
The system was designed for the African continent, to offers practical recommendations to mitigate disaster impacts, such as floods, cyclones, droughts, and landslides.
Governments and stakeholders can use the tool to proactively respond to disasters and minimize losses.
According to the African Union, Cyclone Freddy, Storm Daniel, an earthquake in Morocco, devastating floods in Libya, were some of the deadliest events on the African continent.
In 2022 alone, disasters in Africa led to economic losses of USD 38.5 billion.
