A power failure since Thursday, led to interruptions at the pump stations. This then caused hiccups in water supplies to the Greater Mthonjaneni.

In an update, the King Cetshwayo District Municipality said Mthonjaneni residents should take note that King Cetshwayo District Municipality is conducting regular follow-ups with Eskom to ensure that the power supply is restored as soon as possible.
The affected Mthonjaneni Wards are: Wards 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.

This  happened while a fire raged on at the Empangeni Regional Landfill site.

In an update to residents, the Municipality said
the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (EDTEA KZN) on Friday, authorized the use of the newly-built Cell 3B, which will allow waste to be received and processed at the new site, while work continues to extinguish the smoke and fire on the old Cell 2 site.

This all happened when the fire index was high, as forecast by the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

The Municipality said an additional earth-moving equipment to assist with taking down the fire has been secured, and Tronox KZN Sands has also provided similar equipment, which is  on site.
