The Olievenhoutbosch Substation, in Centurion, was gutted by a fire on Christmas Day.
Eugene Modise, MMC for Finance, in the City of Tshwane, said the City suspects acts of cable theft and vandalism, sparked the fire.
“The fire erupted around 2am on the 24th and lasted for the better half of Christmas Day. We would like to appreciate EMS and TMPD for their swift response and efforts to contain this unfortunate incident” he said.
Initial assessments show that Transformer A sustained irreparable damage, while, the second one (Transformer B), passed all tests, along with Transformer R, which is the spare.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
