More than ten (10) people were displaced by two separate fires in Kwanokuthula and Qolweni on Monday evening.
While verifications continue, Bitou officials said the fire in Cuba in Qolweni destroyed two informal homes and two others were partially burnt.
The fire at Kwanokuthula was at Skhosana Street, where three shacks and a house were affected.
Andile Namntu, Acting Director, Public Safety and Manager for Corporate Communications at Bitou, used the incident to urge residents to remain cautious, especially during cold weather conditions, when the risk of household fires may increase.
“Community members are reminded not to leave open flames, candles, heaters, or cooking appliances unattended.”
