Flames from underneath the high-transmission lines in City Deep tripped up at least two transformers yesterday evening.

Spokesperson of City Power, Isaac Mangena, said about two 88kv breakers on transformer 1 & 3  tripped, causing a widespread outage around 6pm last night.

He said this affected the Prospect Station and several substations that are fed by it.

“Operators and the protection personnel are on site to start working on the process of restoring supply. The Mulbarton/Mondeor and Robertsham 88kV line has been isolated, and power supply
will be gradually restored” said Mangena.

Areas affected in the Southern suburbs are Ormonde, Robertsham, Mulbarton, Linmyer, Bassonia, Glenvista, Mondeor, Wemmer, Mulbarton, Cleveland, Moffat, Kazerne, Central, Siemert, City Deep, Benrose, Bertrams, Doornfontein, Aspen Hills, Booysens Reserve, Evans Park, Rossetenville, Risana, Moffat View, The Hills, Reuven, Stafford and surrounds.
