Police seized four (4) excavators and one (1) dump truck during a disruptive operation conducted on Tuesday, at Hencor Mine in Rustenburg.
The excavators and the dump truck, are estimated at R5 million.
Major General Nombuso Khoza, Head of the Hawks in the North West, said the operations were carried out by Rustenburg-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation, the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources and the Illicit Mining and Infrastructure Task Team.
The disruptive operation followed information received about alleged illegal mining activities at Hencor Mine.
“These disruptive operations demonstrate the Directorate’s commitment to tackling illegal mining activities, which have a negative impact on community safety” said Major General Khoza.
