The police in Gauteng seized counterfeit goods worth an estimated R23 million, in Johannesburg Central, on Friday.

About 23 shops were visited and searched, resulting in the confiscation of 27,058 counterfeit clothing items and footwear, with an estimated street value of R23 million.

Police said the operation was coordinated by the Gauteng Counterfeit Unit with the support of Border Police, Public Order Policing (POP), the Commercial Crime Unit, brand protectors and the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
