Of 102 people tested, between the 27 April 2026 to 3 May 2026, about 36 (35.3%) had influenza, 22 (21.6%) had cases of respiratory syncytial virus or RSV and 1 (1.0%) case of Covid (SARS-CoV-2).

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said in a statement on Thursday, that the influenza season began early, compared to the start of previous seasons, but similar to 2025.

The season started around the 9 March 2026.

The RSV season also began around the same time, which researchers said, is late, compared to the start of the previous seasons, but similar to what was observed in 2025. 

RSV activity is currently at a low level.

The NICD also said it collected samples from 2,273 people tested, from the 29 December 2025 to 3 May 2026.

Some 292 (12.8%) cases of influenza, were detected, 211 (9.3%) cases of (RSV), 40 (1.8%) cases of SARS-CoV-2 and 29 (1.5%) cases of B. pertussis (whooping cough).
