Weekend rains have resulted in localized flooding in Boksburg, Bryanston and Kempton Park in Johannesburg.
In addition, there was a widespread power outage affecting the OR Tambo International Airport and surrounding areas, including ORTIA; Isando, Kempton Park West, Aston Manor and Spartan.
Water in rivers and dams is also on the rise, including the Jukskei River, near Setjwetla in Alexandra.
Joburg Emergency Services (EMS) said it is monitoring the situation closely, with emergency teams positioned along the riverbank and swift-water rescue units on standby.
A concerned resident, of the Vaal, raised concerns about the rising dam levels.
The Vaal dam is now at 104% full.
The Grootdraai which flows into the Vaaldam, is almost 100% as well as the Bloemhof which is now over 100%.
The barrage is currently at a level of 7,54 with a discharge of 178,00m3/s, with only 4 barrage gates open.
Residents throughout the country, where rains and severe thunderstorms are expected, including Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo, are urged to stay clear of flooded areas and move to higher ground if necessary.
This as some roads in the North West Province are underwater, including the R24 Rustenburg to Magaliesburg, N12 between Klerksdorp and Stilfontein and N18 outside Mafikeng towards Vryburg near Uplands.
The Department of Community Safety and Transport in the North West, said motorists must be extra careful on the R30 between Klerksdorp and Ventersdorp, and between Derby and Ventersdorp.
Other roads of concern, are the R 503 Hartbeesfontein, N4 near Dinokana, N14 between Sannieshof and Delareyville and R 52 between Koster and Lichtenburg, and between Koster and Rustenburg.
