The temporary reduction by R3 per litre of the general fuel levy for petrol, is expected to continue to Tuesday, the 05th of May 2026.

Enoch Godongwane, Minister of Finance, alongside, Gwede Mantashe, Minister of Minerals and Petroleum, announced the extension of the relief, from 01st April 2026.

This means an increase of 93c for diesel, instead of R3,93c per litre, from Wednesday, the 06th May until the 02nd June 2026.

The general fuel for the month of July, is expected to be halved to R1.50 per litre for petrol and R1.96 per litre for diesel, from the 03rd June until the 30th of June 2026.

The amount will return to R4,10c per litre and R3,93c for diesel.

The Departments also said in total, the cost of the temporary fuel levy, between April and June, will amount to R17,2 billion, in foregone tax revenue.

As of April 28, 2026, the price of Brent Crude is trading above $111 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) has surged to over $100 per barrel.
