The search for more people trapped in a four storey building that collapsed on Friday, in KwaZulu-Natal, is well underway.
Three died as a result, while 11 were rescued and sent to hospital (9 men and two women).
The building is in Verulam, north of Durban.
Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs said provincial Disaster Management teams and emergency medical personnel are attending to the injured, while specialized search and rescue teams are trying to reach those who are still trapped in the debris.
The building was under construction, when it caved in.
“All relevant disaster management protocols have been activated and multiple agencies, including emergency medical services, fire and rescue units and law enforcement, are on site to ensure a coordinated response” said Buthelezi.
