Call for donations
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Disaster Management Centre (NMBM) has asked residents and the business fraternity to chip in with much needed resources to assist families affected by floods, especially those in temporary shelters.
Gary Van Niekerk, The Executive Mayor of the NMBM, said there is a serious shortage of food and toiletries in the shelters.
“We are currently experiencing some shortage of items that we normally provide for people we evacuated to emergency shelters. These include mattrasses, blankets, baby nappies, toilet paper, sanitary towels, cleaning material, baby formula and soups. We need these to distribute to these shelters that still require them to assist those communities who are still in need. It would be appreciated if these items could be delivered at the South End fire station, in Walmer Boulevard, we would then manage it from then onwards” Van Niekerk said.
