City Power said a man was found dead after being electrocuted at the Mechanical Workshop Substation in Roodepoort.
The entity said in a statement, it suspects the deceased man was trying to steal and vandalize the substation.
The suspect’s body, was burnt beyond recognition and was later found inside the station, by an employee from City Power.
“It’s still unclear what he tampered with that triggered the electric shock. From preliminary
information, it appears as though he broke one of the steel doors and forced entry” City Power said.
The station was severely vandalised and it needed a new switchgear and or Ring
Main Units (RMU).
As a result of this tragic incident, power supply to customers in parts of Florida, Hamberg and surrounding areas was interrupted.
Electricity is now fully restored for Florida, Georgina, South Rand Leases, Esperania, Struisfontein, Creswell Park and Hamberg.
