The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s (CWDM) Fire Services said its teams battled against multiple fires on Tuesday.

The new fires are in Wemmershoek, Paardeberg and Kwaggaskloof.

A large fire line started on the mountain above a berry farm located opposite a prison, on the Wemmershoek Road.

The Municipality said the fire was fuelled by strong winds, but vehicles and ground teams were at it the whole day, to protect netted orchard in the vicinity.

Partnering firefighters are also from CapeNature and the Provincial Disaster Management Center’s Black Hawk.

There is a request to deploy aerial resources in the fire in Paardeberg, north of Paarl.

Teams from the Drakenstein Fire Services are on site alongside the Winelands Fire Protection Association and landowners.

A third fire is in the Kwaggaskloof Dam, outside Worcester.

Fire vehicles and ground teams are assisted by the PMDC Black Hawk helicopter.

The Overstrand Municipality Fire Crew, landowners, the Greater Overberg Fire Protection Association (goFPA), and other stakeholders, were on the fire line from Landskein to Phillipskop.

The fire was contained.

Dean O Neill, Municipal Manager of Overstrand Municipality, said in a statement, teams from Working on Fire and the NCC Wildfires are fighting fires in Crystal Kloof and Misty Mountain, where progress is slow due to a challenging terrain and vegetation.
