The roads between Walter Sisulu and the N1/N2 split, will be temporarily closed on Sunday, 21 September 2025 from 04:00 to 12:00.

The City of Cape Town’s urban mobility department, said the closure is due to maintenance work on Variable Message Signs (VMS) boards.

They are electronic signs used by public and private agencies to provide important updates on road traffic, public safety, community events, and more.

As a result, the following lanes will be closed- elevated freeway outbound at the Walter Sisulu Avenue and N1/ Nelson Mandela Boulevard split, Heerengracht Street at the Heerengracht Street Circle and FW De Klerk Boulevard and  FW de Klerk Boulevard at Heerengracht Street and DF Malan Street.

Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, said ‘we ask that road users please drive with caution and follow all the signage and directions from traffic officers during these times. We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we carry out this essential maintenance to keep Cape Town moving safely.”
