The number of people who died as a result of Sunday’s storm, in Margate and Port Shepstone, has risen to two.
Thamsanqa Ntuli, the Premier of KwaZulu Natal (KZN), visited the area, part of the Ugu District Municipality, on Monday.
Authorities now know that a 63-year-old woman lost her life when a house collapsed during a mudslide in Bomela, part of the Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality.
A 46-year-old man also drowned after he was swept away by floodwaters in Qholoqholo.
Five people were swept away in a vehicle by floodwaters in Amanzimtoti.
Two (2) occupants managed to escape from the wreckage, but the search is on for two (2) males, aged between 25 and 40.
Disaster Management teams have begun mop-up operations following the devastating rains, which uprooted trees and damaged roads, homes and commercial properties.
