A heatwave is expected to continue over the north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, the south-western part of the Free State as well as the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape until Monday.

The Buffalo Municipality has advised residents of a UV index in the region, which is expected to climb up to 11 on Sunday.

The Municipality said this is “very unhealthy.”

“We urge everyone to take the necessary precaution to stay safe and hydrated.”

The level of main dams in the Eastern Cape were published by the Department of Water and Sanitation, on the 20th January 2025.
The Belfort dam is 100% full, Binfield (88%), Boesmanskrantz (67,4%), Bridle Drift (98%), Cata (79,8%), Corana (99,5%), Darlington (37,6%) and De Mistkraal (80,6%).

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has also issued impact based warnings over the eastern parts of Northern Cape, against strong damaging winds and excessive lightning.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the western interior of the Eastern Cape, the north-western parts of the Western Cape, western and central parts of the Northern Cape as well as the extreme western parts of the North West.
