Two people were injuries in the Zimbane/Ntlekiseni area, in Port St John’s Wards 8 and 13, following overnight gusts and heavy downpours.

The people were struck by roof sheets when strong winds tossed roofs and toppled trees in the OR Tambo District.

The storm left a trail of damage, including at the Municipality’s main building in Myezo. The roof was damaged on both the southern and western sides, collapsing ceiling in some offices.

Rain caused damage to files. 

There is also a power outage caused by the storm in King Sabata Dalindyebo and Nyandeni. 

The Municipality also said electricity supply was disconnected as a safety precaution in some areas, after electric poles fell and live wires were exposed. 

Eskom technical teams are on the ground, assessing infrastructure damage to determine restoration timelines.

Fallen trees were sighted at King Sabata Dalindyebo, as well as flooding along Nelson Mandela Drive, electric poles are down in Ngangelizwe and Southernwood, and damage to private property. 

The Stwayi, Njemla Senior Primary School was also affected. 

Community members from Stwayi, are being temporarily housed at a local Community Hall, as a precautionary safety measure.

Lightning strikes and wind-related incidents In Kumkani Mhlontlo Local Municipality, damaged houses in Ward 25 in Nothanaza Village as well as Empindweni and Sikhobeni.

Similarly homes were blown away by strong winds in Nyandeni, Wards 12, 13 and 18.
