Unplanned outages are down to 729 Megawatts (MW), while the Energy Availability Factor (EAF) is on the rise.
Eskom said on Friday, the Energy Availability Factor (EAF), which measures the percentage of time the generation fleet is available to produce electricity—was at 68.29% for the month of November 2025.
This is a 6.39% increase from 61.9% in the same period last year.
Year-to-date, EAF further increased to 63.7%, but has previously exceeded the 70% mark, at least 39 times.
Daphne Mokwena, Spokesperson of Eskom, said the improvement in EAF has significantly reduced Eskom’s reliance on costly diesel generation, allowing the company to focus more on cost-effective primary energy sources.
There were 10,785 Megawatts (MW) in unplanned outages, between 28 November to 4 December 2025, an improvement from 11,514MW during the same period last year.
Eskom has installed 58,540 smart meters, against a goal to install 577,347 by March 2026.
