A workshop on Municipal electricity tariffs is expected to get underway, on Friday, the 05th December 2025.
The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) said the workshop will dwell on the tariff application process for the 2026/27 financial year.
Charles Hlebela, Spokesperson of NERSA, said in a statement, the workshop is the last phase, following a series of workshops, with sector stakeholders.
He also said the submission of applications was extended to the 13th January 2026.
“This extension is granted to allow distributors additional time to finalise their applications, while still enabling NERSA to issue tariff decisions within the MFMA prescribed timelines.”
In terms of section 43(2) of the Municipal Finance Management Act, 2003 (Act No. 56 of 2003), municipalities are required to submit their electricity tariffs to NERSA on or before 15 March of each year for approval, to enable implementation by 1 July of the same year.
The workshop will be broadcast live on social media platforms from 9am until 1pm: Venue: Microsoft Teams, Twitter @NERSA_ZA and Facebook @NERSAZA.
