Ahead of strong winds expected in Gauteng, the City of Joburg emergency services (EMS) has shared some useful tips for residents and motorists.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level warning 2 against severe thunderstorms and heavy rain for Thursday.
Joburg EMS tips
= People in low-lying areas must monitor water levels and evacuate to a safer, higher place.
= Avoid flooded roads, bridges and routes.
=Never try to walk, swim or drive in swift- flowing water, even if it look shallow.
=Motorists must try avoid flooded areas.
=Drive to and park at a safer area.
= Avoid contact with flood water, it might be contaminated with sewage, oil or other substances.
