The victims of the June floods are moving to a temporary shelter from Walmer.
The Municipality has begun meeting affected communities, including the ones to be moved to a new site, out of Lapland.
Babalwa Lobishe, Deputy Executive Mayor, said “while the temporary shelters are ready for occupation, we are in the final stages of electrifying the structures before we can be able to allow the residents to move in, however these updates are important so that we are all on the same page and move together until the situation is back to normal.”
The first community meeting was in Walmer yesterday.
“We will continue to hold these engagements with the residents, next week we are going to Lapland informal settlement where we will be updating the flood affected residents. It is our aim and hope that these processes run as smoothly as possible so that we can close this chapter of the disaster” she said.
