The Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) training towards the Green and Resilient UrbanShift Africa Forum kicked off in Nairobi, Kenya, last week.

Gift Kasamira, Deputy Director for Economic Planning of Lilongwe, Malawi, said the City is implementing innovation waste management solutions.

The training was attended by over 250 City and regional leaders from African countries, hosted by C40.

Also discussed at the event, was the Plastics Treaty, strategies for integrating circular economy principles into sectors such as finance, the built environment and food systems.

Speaking about the event, Natalie Salazar, ICLEI’s Head of Innovative Finance, said “Bridging the Gap: Driving Sustainable Investment in Africa, highlights priorities for attracting investment at the necessary scale and emphasizes the need for enabling policies and multilevel partnerships to unlock greater sustainable finance for cities.”
