The next Full Moon (Diamond Moon) peaked on Thursday morning at 04:11am (2 April 2026).
Moonrise is expected at different times around the country, at Richard’s Bay (17:22), East London (17:37), Johannesburg (17: 39), Carnarvon (17:42), Bloemfontein (17:45), George and Beaufort West (17:58), Cape Town (18:15) and Alexander Bay (18:25).
According to the Severe Weather Information Centre (SWAICSA), while many international sources refer to the April Full Moon as the “Pink Moon,” in South Africa it is often more meaningful to recognise it as the Diamond Moon.
The name “Pink Moon” comes from North American seasonal traditions.
It occurs in mid-autumn in South Africa, which deviates from the idea of a “Pink Moon.”
