The current daily water consumption is 379 million litres, in Port Elizabeth.
The daily recommended limit is 280 million litres, meaning the City is using 99 million litres more.
This is despite decreasing water levels at the main Impofu Dam.
The City said levels are at 22.20% full, meaning there are now only 185 days of water supply left.
The City urged residents to use water sparingly.
“Water supply remains under significant pressure, and urgent water-saving is required across the metro.”
As a result, the City is pleading with residents to take shorter showers, repair leaks, and close taps when not in use.
Residents are to reuse water where possible and limit outdoor use.
