This is the act governing most Municipalities, specifically the supply of basic water and sanitation services.

Now the Department said in its write- up this morning, it intends to tweak the Act, to expand on the objects of the Act primarily, and increase the regulation for safely- managed sanitation.
An amended act, will also include the enforcement aspects as well, which are currently silent.

An amended act will also provide for the accountability of water services providers concerning the management, reporting, and financial transparency of operating license.

The Department also said some of the reasons for amending the account, are to find ways of providing operating licenses, content of the licence and Regulations for licence procedure.
The aim is also to develop regulations relating to registration of persons who install and operate water service works.

It is also to ensure Municipalities provide the quality of potable or drinking water.
