The Portfolio Committees on Minerals and Petroleum Resources as well as those of the Police, are expected to be briefed today, Tuesday, the 18th March 2025, regarding minerals and petroleum matters in the country.
The briefing will focus on derelict and ownerless mines by the Department of Minerals and Petroleum Resources, and on illegal mining by the Department of Police.
Also on the agenda are recent high-profile law enforcement initiatives under the Operation Vala Umgodi initiative, to tackle illegal mining.
