Some eThekwini beaches are open and safe to swim, while water quality samples are monitored constantly to ensure the safety of the public. In a statement, the City said beaches with acceptable water quality standards are open, those with poor water quality remain shut.


eThekwini, lies at the mouth of the Umgeni River, on the East Coast of South Africa,
facing the Indian Ocean.


Loosely translated in IsiZulu, uMngeni means “the river of entrance.” It is approximately 232 kilometres long and has a catchment area of 4,432 square kilometres.
