An informal settlement on Forman Road, was left in near ashes by an angry blaze, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Some 74 structures were completely destroyed, leaving more than 140 residents displaced.
Moreover, two residents sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.
The eThekwini Fire and Emergency Services confirmed receiving an emergency call about the fire at around 02h23 am.
Firefighters say they first had to overcome challenges to access, due to the absence of proper road infrastructure and a steep access route.
But they soon launched an intensive operation to contain the fire.
