Two suspects, aged fourty two (42) and forty three (43), were arrested for illicit mining in the Alexander Bay policing area, in the Northern Cape.
The police (SAPS) said they received information from a security company regarding illegal digging activities at Beesbank.
While en route to the mine, they saw people standing next to a blue double-cab bakkie.
They searched the vehicle, and found several bags suspected to be diamond-bearing gravel, as well as digging implements.
They arrested them for contravening the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (Act 28 of 2002).
The suspected diamond gravel and digging implements were seized together with the vehicle as part of the investigation.
The suspects are expected to appear at the Port Nolloth Magistrate’s Court soon.
