Police and illegal miners (Zama-Zamas) locked horns on Sunday morning early, at Blyvooruitzig Gold Mine, in Carletonville.
The police(SAPS) said its Intervention Unit in Pretoria gathered information about the suspects.
Upon arrival on site, a shootout between the two groups, ensued, killing two suspects.
Police also said suspects were heavily armed with an AK47, two 9mm pistols, and ammunition.
Four suspects were arrested.
A State-owned vehicle was damaged in the shootout.
