About fifteen (15) suspects were arrested in the Northern Cape, for the contravention of the Immigration Act, illegal mining activities and possession of suspected unpolished diamonds, from Tuesday, the 17th until Friday, the 20th June 2025. 

They are between the ages of 22 and 50.

Authorities said they acted on information received by the Vala Umgodi teams, about nocturnal mining activities at the Koingnaas mine.

Sergeant Merapelo Pilane, said in a statement, police arrested ten (10) suspects at the Koingnaas mine, who were in possession of suspected unpolished diamonds.

Two more were arrested on Friday, the 20th June 2025. Police confiscated more diamonds, a bearing gravel and other equipment.

All suspects are expected to appear at the Magistrates Court, on Monday, the 23rd June 2025.
