Two suspects were arrested by the police Flying Squad, on Monday this week, for smuggling a Pangolin in a box.
The police (SAPS) were conducting routine checks at entry and exit routes, in Prince Albert, in the Central Karoo.
They pulled over a Hyundai, and found a box with a Pangolin (an endangered species) inside.
They confiscated the Pangolin, with an estimated street value of R200 000.00.
The occupants of the vehicle were subsequently arrested for the unlawful possession of an endangered species.
The Pangolin was handed over to Cape Nature, for further processing.
Both suspects, believed to be from Delft in Cape Town, remain in police custody. They are expected to appear in the Prince Albert Magistrates’ court, once charged.
