City Power said it has unpuzzled two big cases in electrical crimes,this month. 

The first, is of a 40-year old who siphoned a total of R337K from a businessman from Blackheath, by posing as an official of City Power. 

City Power’s Isaac Mangena, said the 40 year old, was arrested on the Friday, 24

January 2025, on charges of tampering with essential infrastructure, theft, extortion and arson. 

As a result, he was taken into custody, following an extensive investigation into fraud and extortion levelled against him.

He also tried to demand about R97K bribe from the man, to fast-track

the installation of a new electrical service connection.

City Power said it’s case against the man is solid. He appeared before the local

Magistrates Court last Friday, and his bail application was denied. 

The second case on the same day, the 24 January 2025, a 29-year-old woman  from Auckland Park, was arrested on charges of arson, tampering with essential infrastructure, and malicious damage to property. 

She was apprehended after a tip-off from a local resident who reported seeing her burning MSS and RMU equipment near Twickenham Avenue.

City Power’s security service provider hastily arrived on the scene and detained her. 

This is the second incident she is being investigated for, related to similar acts of tampering with electrical infrastructure.
