Two mine employees were apprehended along with four illegal miners, near Hennenman, in the Free State.
The police (SAPS) said in a statement, the mine employees allegedly aided an illegal mining operation near Hennenman.
The Vala Umgodi detectives with combat units and private security, conducted an in-depth investigation, launched on the 8th of July, where they also intercepted men trying to access underground operations at a local mine.
The first suspect, a 45-year-old foreign national employed as a dump truck driver at the mine, was arrested. His black car, a Mercedes-Benz minibus, was used to transport illegal miners.
Further investigation by the police, led to the arrest of a 41-year-old female, who holds the position of Human Resources Manager (HRM) at the same mine.
Her red Audi sedan was also seized by the police, for being allegedly used in transporting illegal miners onto the mine premises.
Both suspects were traced and arrested in the suburb of Dagbreek, Welkom.
“They face charges including conspiracy to commit illegal mining, mining rights prohibition relating to illegal mining, negligently endangering mine health and safety of others, intimidation, and trespassing. They are expected to appear in court soon.”
