A 21-year old male suspect, was found in possession of a bag full of endangered plants, in the Northern Cape, on Saturday.
He was found by rangers at a local Nature Reserve near Nieuwoudtville.
They alerted the police (SAPS) about a suspicious person in the park.
He was arrested with endangered plants worth a substantial amount and was charged under the Northern Cape Nature Conservation Act 9 of 2009.
He is expected to appear at the Calvinia Magistrate’s Court and will remain in custody until his court appearance.
Brigadier Schalk Andrews, the Commissioner of the police in the area, commended the police involved and also warned against violating the fauna and flora of the Namakwa region, which is protected.
