Two suspects were arrested in possession of 3 Leopard Tortoises, in Bloemfontein, last week.

The men (a South African national, and his friend, a foreign national from Ghana) were apparently spotted trying to sell the tortoises at Hoffman square in Bloemfontein.

A concerned resident reported the matter  to the Wildlife Crime Information Network (WCIN).

WCIN then sent all relevant information and a description of the vehicle to the Police in Bloemfontein.

The Police pursued the suspects and found the animals in the boot of their car.

They were then taken to the Parkweg Police Station for questioning and later to the Bainsvlei Police Station.

Further investigation revealed that the Renault was a taxi hired by the two, to transport them to Hoffman square.

They are expected to appear at the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Monday.
