Several roads were temporarily blocked by fallen trees, including the N2 national route, at uPhongolo, following heavy downpours and strong winds on Sunday evening.
Although the storm lasted for about 30 minutes, it caused extensive damage to roads and property.
The N2 was cleared on Monday morning but some internal roads remain flooded.
Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, in KwaZulu Natal, said teams were dispatched to mop up and assess the extent of the damage.
