Pumping has resumed at Mapleton station.
Rand Water confirmed that although full pumping operations resumed at around 15h10, on Tuesday afternoon, it will take some time for reservoir levels to recover, and for the water supply system to stabilise.
Affected areas are in the the Cities of Ekurhuleni and Tshwane, as well as Lesedi, Govan Mbeki, Victor Khanye and Thembisile Hani Local Municipalities.
They may continue to experience no water supply or low water pressure during the recovery period.
An electricity outage occurred at 20h35 on Monday and brought operations at Mapleton pump station to a halt.
David Mahlobo, Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, conducted an urgent oversight visit to the facility in Boksburg.
He was accompanied by Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor.
The Municipality maintains the power failure was caused by a lightning strike during Monday’s heavy rainfall.
Repairs to the circuit breaker were completed.
