Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) is the latest state utility, to call for communities and authorities to work together to protect Phalaborwa’s Bulk Water Infrastructure.
LNW said in a statement this week, that it has identified hotspots of illegal connections and interference to its bulk water pipelines.
These include from the R40 road towards Namakgale Reservoir, at Makhushane Village, along the R71 route from Namakgale Reservoir, passing Namakgale Taxi Rank, towards Ben Farm Reservoir.
Others are along a section towards Lulekani Reservoir.
LNW said “the situation is a cause for grave concern, as the disruption of water flow to reservoirs affects the ability to sustain adequate water storage and supply. These incidents also place additional pressure on water supply operations and make it difficult to ensure a consistent and reliable supply to communities that depend on the system.”
LNW is therefore, calling upon all communities in Phalaborwa and the surrounding areas to join forces and partner in protecting the integrity of the bulk water supply system.
