About 46 people were killed by deadly floods in Brazil.

According to the Atmospheric – Kinetic Seismic Peak Research, most victims were either buried in landslides or trapped by flash floods in low-lying urban areas.

The organisation also said meteorological disturbance struck Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

This led to extreme torrential rains, recorded at 589 mm (23 inches) in some areas of the City.

The city of Juiz de Fora is the epicenter of the disaster, recording its rainiest February in history. 

Emergency services are struggling to reach isolated neighborhoods. 

The search for  21 to 39 people continues, while another 3,000 people, were displaced when 440 homes were completely destroyed in Juiz de Fora alone.

Rescue teams with search dogs are focusing on the Parque Jardim Burnier neighborhood, where a massive slope failure buried a dozen homes.

Multiple bridges were also destroyed, and major roads, cut off by mud and debris.
