An additional sluice gate was opened at the Vaal Dam from 10:00 am, on Saturday morning, the 05th April 2025.
In total, 4 gates are now open.
This follows good rains for a week, which increased the level of water in the Dam to 108%.
The three sluices opened, were able to keep up until water inflow increased to 650 m³/s.
Residents took to social media raising concern about water levels downstream, such as at the Vaal Reefs boating club.
The team at the Bloemhof Dam Nature Reserve, recommended incremental outflows to respond to water flowing into the dam, to start with 700 m³/s at 10am and increase by 100 m³/s until 4pm on Saturday.
