The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has invested R8 million, to improve the efficiency of the Cape Recife Wastewater Treatment Works.

Speaking during an oversight visit to the plant, Babalwa Lobishe, Mayor of the Metro, said a new generator, costing R2.8 million, is the latest investment in the plant’s operations. It is expected to ensure reliable operations and ease pressure on the municipal grid.

“To date, over R8 million was invested in critical upgrades, with the plant now 70% operational – a clear demonstration of the Municipality’s commitment to maintaining and sustaining this vital facility” said Lobishe.

The plant is expected to process more wastewater than before the upgrades.

The Municipality also said the refurbishments are essential to boost efficiency, protect the surrounding ecosystem, and ensure environmental compliance.
