The fire which has been burning since Monday this week, in Heidelberg, Hassequa is fully contained.

The Garden Route District Municipality said in an update on Thursday evening, the northern slopes are actively burning uphill in a veld aged between 30 and 60 years old.

This is due to high fire load, which has caused a great amount of smoke.

The flame on the north facing slope towards Brand River, is expected to self extinguish.

The District said it has deployed a crew of 45 from its own Fire and Rescue Services, the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association, Cape Nature and Working on Fire, as well as landowners.

The George Fire Department said it attended to at least nine vegetation fires (excluding the planned control burn) and one informal structural fire in Thembalethu earlier today.

An uncontrolled fire was burning on the slopes below Touwsranten, on Thursday evening.
