DA Leader John Steenhuizen has reportedly approached President Cyril Ramaphosa to fire Dr Dion George, Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environmental Affairs (DAFF).

In a letter written to the President, Steenhuizen reportedly said George is slow to implement country strategies in line with global climate change ones.

This is despite a country plan submitted to UNFCCC last week at a Leaders Summit in Belem, Brazil.

EN365 has sent questions to conservation organisations and civil society groups, who have thus far only shared golden opinions about George’s decision to support scientists in their rezonation, to protect African penguins.

He has also intervened in environmental crimes such as the regulation of wildlife trade.
