The fire in Caledon is 90% contained.

The Theewaterskloof Municipality also confirmed that the N2, near the town, is now open.

Several flare ups moved below the Casino and jumped the road, to several homes.

No damages were reported, but there is concern that the “below the casino” fire could move down and threaten the housing development (houses) below the line.

The VWS ground team has been deployed to stop this.

The fire services put out the fire lines around the hospital around 4pm on Sunday.

The hospital is very smokey, but safe.

The fire in the Nature Garden, proved most challenging for the teams, wiping out several yellow wood trees.

Several partners were on the line including the Overberg District Municipality, Theewaterskloof Municipality, WOF-Kishugu JV ground teams and aviation, the Provincial Traffic Department and Landowners.

In another fire, mopping up is underway in 𝗔𝗮𝘀𝘃𝗼𝗲̈𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗴, 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗮, in the Southern Cape.

The Garden Route District Municipality Fire & Rescue Services, Hessequa Municipality Fire & Rescue Services, Working on Fire, and Albertinia Farm Watch units are on site.

Chief Wynand Els, Drakenstein Municipality’s Fire Chief, confirmed that 40 informal homes were destroyed by a fire in Mbekweni, Paarl, on Saturday evening.

Drakenstein Municipality’s Fire and Rescue Services responded to that fire, shortly after attending to the fire at Laborie Estate in Paarl.

Els also said the cause of the fire is unknown, but an investigation is expected to start soon.

One person was injured and received treatment for burnt wounds and smoke inhalation.
