Rand Water cancelled planned maintenance, scheduled to begin on Friday, the 19th until Sunday, the 21st December 2025.
The water utility said this is due to a fault at the passing valve connecting the G34 and the Q5 pipelines.
Authorities announced postponement dates, in a joint statement released by the Department of Water and Sanitation, Rand Water, Johannesburg Water and the City of Joburg, on Sunday.
Maintenance was moved to January for both phases 2 and 3, starting on the 06th January 2026 until the 08th.
Phase 2 is expected to affect the Kagiso township, the Mogale Local Municipality, Aazardville tower, Leratong hospital, Rand West, Meadowlands North and South, Fleurhof, Roodepoort Deep, Doornkop North, Braamfischer Extension 8.
Phase 3 entails the removal and the refurbishment of the Lethabo Pump set 6, on the 16th and 17th of January.
This will affect water supply to about 20% of EMfuleni Local Municipality.
Sasolburg reservoirs are expected to be filled in advance.
