The names of steering committee members, who are part of an intervention at the uThukela District Municipality, must still be announced.
Velenkosini Hlabisa, the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, announced the initiative on Thursday, to expedite the provision of reliable water and sanitation services across uThukela District Municipality.
He said the committee would be called an “Intervention Management Steering Committee” following a Roundtable Service Delivery meeting with the uThukela District.
Representatives of government, traditional leaders, business, civil society and technical experts agreed on practical steps to tackle long-standing problems.
That Committee is expected to coordinate implementation, monitor progress and manage risks.
He also said he would set up a recovery tracker to monitor infrastructure projects.
“Communities expect tangible improvements, not promises” said Hlabisa.
A first progress report from the newly established committee is due at the end of August 2026, with monthly updates to follow.
