A major burst at the B4 pipeline, has led to a reduction of pumping water at the Palmiet station.

Rand Water said pumping operations at the Palmiet Booster Station were reduced by some 30%.

The system supplies water to about four cities-Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Madibeng.

Makenosi Maroo of Rand Water, said in a statement, technical teams have begun isolating the pipeline and assessing the extent of the damage to repair.

She could not confirm the exact time of completing the repairs.

The system supplies Sandton, Midrand, South Hills Tower, the Alexander Park and Randjieslaagte reservoirs.

It also supplies parts of Pretoria including Atteridgeville, Laudium, Lotus Gardens, Olievenhoutbosch, Thatchfield, and parts of Mabopane and Soshanguve, as well as various municipal zones and industrial sectors connected to the Germiston and surrounding networks.
