The thirty eight year old (38) arrested for theft of precious metals and unlawful possession of platinum metals, appeared at the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court, on Wednesday.

He was found in possession of some 5840 kilograms (kg) of processed platinum, valued at R2 million.

The Rustenberg-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation arrested him, following an investigation into allegations of an alleged planned theft of platinum metals at a mine in Rustenburg by a contractor.

Police and mine security personnel spotted a truck driven by the suspect exiting the mine refinery check point.

That is how the accused was arrested.

He appeared in court and was remanded in custody until 18 August 2026 for a formal bail application.
